Greeson | <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buildsmartbradley.com\/2025\/01\/what-to-do-if-your-government-contract-is-terminated-per-the-new-dei-executive-order\/?utm_source=Bradley+Arant+Boult+Cummings+LLP+-+BuildSmart&amp;utm_campaign=0977347a65-RSS_EMAIL_CAMPAIGN&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_term=0_b504caf31b-0977347a65-78863422\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">BuildSmart<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On January 21, 2025, President Donald Trump issued an executive order titled \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/01\/ending-illegal-discrimination-and-restoring-merit-based-opportunity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Ending Illegal Discrimination and Restoring Merit-Based Opportunity<\/a>.\u201d The executive order\u2019s stated purpose is to end \u201cillegal\u201d diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among other things, the executive order directs the director of the Office of Management and Budget to \u201c[t]erminate all \u2018diversity,\u2019 \u2018equity,\u2019 \u2018equitable decision-making,\u2019 \u2018equitable deployment of financial and technical assistance,\u2019 \u2018advancing equity,\u2019 and the like mandates, requirements, programs, or activities, as appropriate.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anecdotally, we have already seen this directive be interpreted by multiple contracting agencies as mandating the immediate termination or descoping of any federal contract that includes a DEI provision or requirement \u2014 or even just the mention of \u201cDEI\u201d in the scope of work.
