{"id":905119,"date":"2025-12-16T15:52:17","date_gmt":"2025-12-16T22:52:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.myconstructionexpert.com\/blog\/?p=905119"},"modified":"2025-12-16T15:52:20","modified_gmt":"2025-12-16T22:52:20","slug":"contractor-licensing-changes-louisiana","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.myconstructionexpert.com\/blog\/contractor-licensing-changes-louisiana\/","title":{"rendered":"Builders Beware: Louisiana Contractor Licensing Changes"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Trent Cotney, Susan Eccles and Christopher Joseph Jr. | <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adamsandreese.com\/insights\/builders-beware-louisiana-contractor-licensing-changes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Adams &amp; Reese<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This month, the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors (LSLBC)\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.adamsandreese.com\/hubfs\/Client-Alert-PDFs\/Residential%20Roofing%20Memo_12%208-2025.pdf?hsLang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">issued a new update<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.adamsandreese.com\/hubfs\/Client-Alert-PDFs\/Residential%20Roofing%20Memo_12%208-2025.pdf?hsLang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a>\u00a0regarding requirements for contractors who perform residential roof work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Effective January 1, 2026, only licensees holding Residential Construction and Residential Roofing classifications may perform residential roof work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a reminder, changes to the definition of \u201cresidential structure\u201d became effective August 1, 2025, and provides, in pertinent part:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>\u201cResidential structure\u201d&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong><em>means a building or structure that is used primarily for occupancy by a person as a residence.&nbsp;<strong>Such structures or buildings include but are not limited to single family dwellings, and duplexes which are not more than three \ufb02oors in height&nbsp;<\/strong>and structures that are part of or adjacent to the building or structures to be used as a residence. A residential structure more than three \ufb02oors in height may be built by a person holding a building construction and residential construction license.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Licensees who have the Building Construction or Roofing &amp; Sheet Metal\/Siding classifications are not required to take a trade exam. They need only apply for the Residential Construction and Residential Roofing classification.
